Project: Travel
Interact with the world, in person
Background: I've found no substitute for taking a trip to another part of the world to learn about that area's people, culture, and history. The climates and nature can be entirely different from anything you can find in the US. I gain new perspective on life with each trip. And, hey, it's just fun; and fellow travelers are generally great, outgoing people.
My international travels (beyond those taken with family) really started in 2001, with a trip to Italy (back when a euro cost less than a dollar - good times...). It was so exhilarating that each year I've aimed to venture to another destination. 2002: England and France. 2003: Germany (east) and the Czech Republic. 2004: Australia and New Zealand. 2005: India. 2006: China. (2007: doctoral research, primary campaign work in CA.) 2008: Colorado, US. 2009: Germany (west) and cross-country US (OR, MT, SD, IL, CT). 2010: France (south) and Germany (again).
Status: I expect to go back to east Asia in the next year. At some point, I wouldn't mind living abroad for a few months up to a few years.
For leisure, I would like to explore Spain and southern South America, as well as northern Africa and Iran (without Ahmadinejad). I will also definitely be back to Australia and New Zealand.
