Two-sided advice

Project: Speeches <primary sources>

Take advantage of the wealth of the opportunities to hear first-hand from fascinating speakers in Washington, D.C.

Background: What is a special occasion in any other city in the U.S. is the standard operating procedure of D.C.: newsmakers and analysts are constantly engaging in public dialogues on political, social, and cultural topics, literally blocks away from where we live or work. It's very easy to be overwhelmed or jaded by the number of events and fora and not take advantage of the proximity. From Hill briefings, to Brookings events, to Supreme Court proceedings, to embassy events, to the large number of other seminars and lectures put on by local societies and NGOs, there is a lot I wish to sample from.

Status: Through AAAS I have done a fair amount, but there is still more to explore.
