Project: Leadership & Management

Develop the leadership and management skills necessary to make a significant, positive difference in the world

Background: Leadership and management skills are crucial for me to achieve my career goals. As such, I have worked hard to hone these skills through instruction and experience. Within the area of business, I completed the Management of Technology certificate program, taking MBA courses in high-tech marketing, global strategy, negotiation & conflict resolution, bio-tech entrepreneurship, and others, notably including an international business course with former Chairwoman of the Council of Economic Advisors to the President, Laura Tyson. In the area of politics, I studied political leadership through two graduate seminars: one taught by former US Secretary of Labor Robert Reich and another by the now-Executive Vice Chancellor of UC Berkeley George Breslauer; and I studied campaign management with the Director of Communications for John McCain for President (2000), Dan Schnur. Synthesizing this knowledge, I started multiple student groups and initiatives in grad school, actively participating in the community while also testing my own skills. I further applied these skills to a marketing and strategy internship at Kosmix.com, a search startup, and then to multiple leadership positions in the 2007-08 Obama Presidential campaign.

Status: Since moving to Washington, D.C., my policy work and participation in the AAAS S&T Policy Fellowship community have provided new opportunities to use and observe these skills. Also, active through other projects.
